Launched by Celine Bourque, Regen Aqua has grown to house more than 12,300 square feet of environmentally controlled greenhouse. With the capacity to grow more than 7,000 heads of Boston lettuce and 200 lbs of smoked trout fillets each week, Regen Aqua consistently deliver produces to institutions, wholesalers, and retailers throughout Atlantic Canada.
We grow Boston lettuce and raise Rainbow Trout under an ecosystem called Aquaponics, which is a form of agriculture that combines raising fish in tanks (recirculating aquaculture) with soilless plant culture (hydroponics). As the government vigorously develops and supports agricultural innovation and people's demand for safe and healthy organic food increases, our aquaponic farm will be the future of farming.
Furthermore, in order to implement sustainable farming practices that yield high-quality produce, Celine has a unique priority of helping local communities cultivate healthy lifestyles. We believe Regen Aqua will be a business of the future. We will offer public tours for students and those in the local community who are interested in learning about Aquaponics and innovation farming. We also will support and give back to community by donating fresh lettuce to the Valley Food Bank of Woodstock.
With a future-oriented vision and a community-oriented business model, Regen Aqua is growing where consumers are going.
Aquaponics is a cooperation between plants and fish and the term originates from the two words aquaculture (the growing of fish in a closed environment) and hydroponics (the growing of plants usually in a soil-less environment).
No pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no herbicides. Aquaponics products are approved for USDA (American Organic Certification).
Our proprietary closed loop system gives us precise control through the growing process and recirculates 99% of the water used. Once water is pumped into our grow house, it never leaves. The water is filtered by our plants over and over again, and because our lettuce is continuously fortified with nutrients produced by our fish, it grows 4 times faster than lettuce grown in soil.
We feed our fish nutritious food that they convert into organic waste. Our proprietary system pumps the waste water out of their tanks, where it is filtered and refined before being pumped it into our greenhouse where the plants absorb the nutrients they need to grow. In the process, they filter the water to the point where it's so clean, we can pump it directly back into the fish tanks where the 100% organic process starts all over again.
Aquaponics, can be harvested in about half the number of days compared to soil cultivation.
2.6 times more productive than liquid fertilizer cultivation.
Initial cost is 1/4 and running cost is 1/10 compared to LED type plant factory.
